This drum has found a new home, but it remains part of the Kline Drums story. This is a drum I previously built and sold — preserved here as part of the archive of instruments that have come out of my workshop.

This one is a 13" × 3.33" maple piccolo snare built for crack. The thick maple shell and heavy 3.0mm hoops give it plenty of punch when tuned high, while the shallow depth and wide snare bed keep it surprisingly sensitive at lower dynamics. It's a little drum with a lot of attitude.

What's the story with this drum?

This drum is my take on the classic piccolo snare, with a few details that give it a distinctly Kline Drums feel. The 10-ply Keller maple shell is paired with heavy 3.0mm triple-flanged hoops and solid brass lugs, giving the drum some extra weight and helping it deliver that sharp, focused crack when tuned up.

The bearing edges are cut at 30° with an outer round-over, then waxed and burnished. I paired the drum with a George Way-style throw-off and 20-strand German-steel snare wires to keep the response quick and articulate.

And then there's the finish. The exterior has a unique satin "Rattle Can" finish, with a custom silver/white interior. It's a simple idea, but I really like the way it turned out.

For the batter head, I went with a 10mil coated head and added a green reverse-dot for a little extra character.
